Basic Assumptions of Honest and Common Sense Bible Interpretation
- The cannonized Bible (39 Old Testament books and 27 New Testament books) is God’s relevant revelation to man (2 Tim 3:16,17; Matt 5:18)
- God is the Greatest Communicator and therefore communicates His revelation clearly and simply. It appeals to common-sense reasoning.
- God is Intelligent and Logical (in the Human sense) and is therefore capable of communicating His revelations clearly and simply
- Man has sufficient intelligence and follows the same logic (powers of reasoning) as God and is capable of comprehending the revelation of God (created in His image…Gen 1:26)
- God’s revelation has no contradictions and is not confusing when properly and logically understood. Otherwise, God has FAILED at REVELATION.
- God expects man to sufficiently (and even fully) understand Him within a limited scope (Jeremiah 9:23, 24), i.e. we must be able to sufficiently, if not fully, comprehend what God's revealed word says about His KHECED, MISHPAT and TSADAQAH
- Each passage of Scripture is DIRECTLY related to either knowing God or the Chief End of Man: To live out the Greatest Commandment. (Matthew 22:34-40; Mark 12:28-34; Luke 10:25-28) Deuteronomy 6:4,5; Leviticus 19:11-18
- Treat the Word of God with utmost reverence. God is speaking. When you open the Word and start reading, realize that you are ushered into the very presence of God.
- True learning from God requires a dialogue with God. Hence, Bible reading and prayer go together and complete the dialogue between you and God.
