The Ten Commandments: #1 - No Other Priorities But God

The CrossCulture West Covina Facebook Deep Dive videos into the Ten Commandment in Exodus 20 have not been performing as expected. It is a shame that there is so much lost in translation that the Apostles and first century Christians who followed after God would not recognize the kind of Christianity we have today.
It is fitting, therefore, to summarize the true substance of each of the commandments which we have been discussing one commandment at a time at our Deep Dive studies.
FIRST COMMANDMENT: Exodus 20:3, "You shall have NO OTHER gods before me." The following are the flavors of what this commandment really means based on our cross reference examples of how it is obeyed and how it is disobeyed.
1. Western Christianity always talks about making God a priority in one's life. This is NOT biblical because it violates this first commandment. God should be our ONLY PREOCCUPATION and nothing else. When we make God our top priority, then that means we have other priorities or preoccupations. If we have other priorities, then we have OTHER gods.
2. Western Christianity admonishes Christians to let God get involved in their life and personal projects and goals. This is NOT biblical because it violates this first commandment also. Instead Christians should get FULLY INVOLVED and FULLY INVESTED in the life and kingdom project of God. Any goals we have, any pursuits we have, any ambitions or preoccupations we have need to fully align with our life in God and his project of building and expanding his kingdom. This means that there are goals, projects, work, employment, friends, even relatives we have to give up if they get in the way of God's projects or God's life in us.
CHRISTIANS SHOULD NEVER EXPECT GOD TO BLESS ANY INVOLVEMENT THEY HAVE THAT IS NOT ALIGNED WITH GOD'S LIFE AND KINGDOM PROJECT.
