There are at least two subject matters where most people leave their brains outside the door, or do not use their God-given brains at all:
- Religion
- Politics
As far as religion is concerned, even Christians do not use their Bible as a reference point. After that, they refuse to use their brains! Take this doctrine of Hyper-Calvinist election, these people love to talk about ONLY the ELECT are saved. There are at least two common sense points they have to resolve which they cannot:
- Being elect or chosen means nothing other than a privileged status with no other guarantees. Israel was a CHOSEN people, but are all of them saved? Even Paul in the book of Romans said he would give up his own salvation just for all of them to be saved. Jesus CHOSE Judas! Was he saved?
- How does one know that he is elect? Did God open up heaven to speak to them directly that they are ELECT? Are they now prophets who can read the mind of God? So if one cannot logically know that he is elect, what is his assurance that he is INDEED elect?
As for politics, many, even Christians, fail to relate their political inclinations to their theological framework. Politics is just applied religion! Your politics determines your theology. Are you liberal? Truly Calvinistic? whatever. I have one good historical example. The Southern Baptists in general until today do not accept women pastors or speakers. Do you know that this is the SAME denomination that REFUSED to FREE the SLAVES during the American Civil War? Did you know that it was the Wesleyan Methodists that spearheaded the abolutionist movement in the Christian world and these are the same denominations that fought for women suffrage and actually ordain women ministers and senior pastors????
What DOES your theology really apply to politics and social life?
If you do not use your God-given brain, it will become a God-forsaken brain.
Just something to think about.
