The FEAR of the Lord!

Western Christianity seems to misunderstand what the FEAR of the Lord is. Most English translations do a disservice for using the "politically correct" word, "reverence", instead of fear in very much the same way that they translated the word "tithe" instead of "tenth" or "ten percent".

The Hebrew word translated fear in the Old Testament like "the fear of the Lord" is yirah which means exceeding fear, terror and dread! And the Greek word translated fear in the New Testament is phobia and most of us can easily sense what it means... morbid fear or dread.

Regardless, the English-translated "reverence" grossly
downplays the value of the original language. Both Hebrew and Greek emphasize EMOTIONAL fear, while the translations highlight an intellectual awe or reverence almost devoid of any emotions.

So do not depend on one translation only if you do not know Hebrew nor Greek, or better go to the free biblehub.com to get as much as you can out of a translation.  So, what is this post REALLY all about?

Many Christians today, especially those in western Christianity, no longer understand the full meaning of St. Paul when he pointed out in Philippians 2:12 for Christians to "WORK OUT your salvation with FEAR AND TREMBLING"!!!

Any person, Christian or not, has to FEAR and TREMBLE, in fact, BE SCARED, be weak at the knees, tremble in their boots,  to be OUTSIDE of the will of God! Better research and understand this. Your ETERNITY could be at stake!
